Video: Flight MH17 victims to be remembered in Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony

Glasgow 2014 organisers reveal that the victims of the Malaysia Airlines MH17 crash will be remembered in a tribute during the Opening Ceremony at Celtic Park tonight.

A tribute will be dedicated to the victims of the Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 crash during tonight's Opening Ceremony of the Commonwealth Games at Celtic Park.

The flight travelling from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur was shot down in Eastern Ukraine last Thursday, killing 298 people on board.

More than 100 of those victims came from Commonwealth countries and organisers will remember those that perished during tonight's showcase event.

President of Commonwealth Games Federation HRH Prince Imran told reporters: "It's been a sad occasion for our country and of course for the airline. It's terrible to have had two tragedies within months of each other. As I understand it, there will be some recognition of that tonight."

Glasgow 2014 chief executive David Grevemberg added: "We will be conducting a tribute, but we won't go into detail until the Opening [Ceremony]."

Tonight's event will also include performances from Rod Stewart, Susan Boyle and Amy MacDonald.
