Cricket Australia: 'No pressure on players to feature in rescheduled India Test'

Cricket Australia chief executive James Sutherland says that players do not have to compete in next week's rescheduled Test against India.

Cricket Australia chief executive James Sutherland has insisted that players will not be forced to feature in next week's rescheduled Test against India.

The contest was rearranged for December 9 following the death of Australia batsman Phil Hughes.

The four-Test series was due to begin in Brisbane on Thursday, but it has been pushed back after Hughes tragically died last week at the age of 25 with serious head injuries after getting hit by a bouncer bowled by Sean Abbott during a Sheffield Shield match in Sydney.

The first Test is due to go ahead in Adelaide, but Sutherland has claimed that it will be left up to the cricketers to decide whether they want to play or sit out.

"It's absolutely up to the individual and any player who is not comfortable or doesn't feel right, we will obviously understand that," BBC Sport quotes Sutherland as saying.

A funeral will be held in Hughes's hometown of Macksville on Wednesday.
