Sierra Leone Commonwealth Games cyclist reported 'missing'

Cyclist Mohamed Tholley has gone 'missing' after failing to show up for the men's individual time trial, the Sierra Leone Olympic Committee reveals.

The Sierra Leone Olympic Committee has revealed that one of the country's Commonwealth Games competitors has gone missing.

Cyclist Mohamed Tholley was due to compete in yesterday's men's individual time trial but failed to turn up.

The news comes on the same day that fellow Sierra Leone cyclist Moses Sesay said that he was kept in quarantine for four days over fears that he had Ebola.

Sierra Leone declared a state of public emergency over the deadly virus earlier this week, and the chef de mission of the African nation believes that this may be the reason behind Tholley's disappearance.

"Unfortunately one of our athletes has not turned up for his event and we do not know where he is," Unisa Deen Kargbo told The Telegraph. "It is possible he is not coming back.

"The situation is very serious at home, and it is possible this is why he does not want to return. It is very bad there. We are all very concerned about what is going on, but the rest of us are determined to go home. The only problem is that it is becoming difficult to find flights."

A spokeswoman for Glasgow 2014 later said stated there had been no reports of a missing athlete.
