Quotes

Russell T Davies (Showrunner, Writer): "In fact, the episode isn't at all about space babies! There are often three things going on in Doctor Who. It's a bit like plate-spinning, keeping it all in motion. This has got space babies and a monster, so it's a science-fiction story with mystery and suspense. But it's also the personal story of Ruby finding out who she is and where she's from - which will be the spine of this series." (DW Magazine issue 603)

Ncuti Gatwa (The Doctor): "[The babies] were such divas. They had so many demands. All the crew had to get involved in keeping the babies entertained. Very much a group effort. Chaotic though. Very, very chaotic." (Variety)

Ncuti Gatwa (The Doctor): "The monster is so scary. When I heard about it, I thought, 'Oh, that's a nice beginning-of-the-series monster to warn the audience about what's to come. It's on the same level of scariness as the Goblin King.' But then I saw the actual costume and it is absolutely terrifying. I was so shocked! We certainly are on track to get a whole new generation of kids hiding behind the sofa!"

Golda Rosheuvel (Jocelyn): "She is hard working. But she's been abandoned. Due to that loneliness, there are difficulties that she must contend with on a personal level. When you're confined to a space on your own, it can be quite challenging. She has a fierce loyalty and protectiveness. But maybe she doesn't always make good choices because of her isolation."

Script Snippets

The Doctor: "What is it with you and babies?" (DW Magazine)

The Doctor: "Monsters ... [are] just creatures you haven't met yet." (The Times)
