Government boycott of Good Morning Britain to end tomorrow

Piers Morgan reveals that health secretary Matt Hancock will appear on Monday's Good Morning Britain as the government's 201-day boycott of the show comes to an end.

The government's boycott of Good Morning Britain will end tomorrow after 201 days, host Piers Morgan has announced.

A series of fiery interviews between Morgan and several government ministers - most notably health secretary Matt Hancock - towards the start of the coronavirus crisis led to a complete ban of officials appearing on the ITV breakfast programme.

Following the high-profile departure of Downing Street's head of communications Lee Cain last week, however, the government has now decided to drop its stance and will be putting forward Hancock for interview on Monday's edition of the show.

Announcing the news on Twitter, Morgan wrote: "BREAKING: Just had a call from Downing Street. The 201-day Government boycott of @GMB is over & Health Secretary @MattHancock will be appearing on the show tomorrow morning..."

Morgan has been particularly critical of Hancock during the pandemic, describing him variously as "gutless", "smug" and "cocky".
