This year's edition of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! will reportedly be given special permission to film in Australia.

The Australian government is reportedly planning to give ITV special permission to film I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! in New South Wales later this year.

Coronavirus forced the show to relocate to Wales last year, with Gwrych Castle near Abergele being used as a replacement for the usual setting of the Aussie jungle.

ITV has an agreement in place to return to Gwrych this year should travel to Australia remain impractical, with the country's notoriously-tough coronavirus travel restrictions likely to extend into 2022.

According to The Sun, however, the Aussie government is prepared to offer ITV an exemption to allow cast and crew to travel into the country and film the show, which is essentially a free advert for the Australian tourism industry.

"Everyone is delighted with this news. All the signs are now pointing towards a return to the jungle," a source told the newspaper.

"As great as a year in the castle was, the show is made by its surroundings and the glitz and glamour of the jungle.

"ITV have assurances from Australian border control bosses that even if a wider travel ban is still in place for tourists, they'll get the paperwork and clearance they need to send cast and crew to Oz. It's a big moment."

The new series is due to begin on ITV in November.
