Marvel movies 'to be made in Sydney for next five years'

Upcoming films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will reportedly be shot in Australia for the foreseeable future.

Marvel is reportedly planning to centre its operation out of Sydney, Australia for the next five years.

The studio puts out three MCU movies every year and in recent years has tended to prefer the UK as its filming base of choice, with upcoming movies Black Widow, Eternals and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness all having been filmed in London.

Sydney is being used for the next Thor movie, as well as Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, however, and a report in Aussie newspaper The Daily Telegraph claims that all films will be shot there for the foreseeable future.

"There is nowhere in the world where films can be shot in the way they can be here in Australia," a source told the newspaper.

"Sydney is the perfect place for the Marvel blockbusters because most are essentially shot in front of a green screen. The whole studio is essentially transporting itself from the US."

Australia is also an attractive location for productions during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, with the country's tough measures to tackle the disease having meant that life is now mostly operating as normal.
