Holby City picks up filming with special coronavirus episode

Filming of new episodes of Holby City gets underway at Elstree, with the coronavirus pandemic being tackled head on.

Holby City has resumed filming after more than four months of shutdown due to coronavirus, the BBC has announced.

The medical drama halted production in mid-March as the crisis escalated and took a break from the BBC One schedules in April and May.

Broadcasting of episodes recorded prior to lockdown picked up again last month, although another hiatus is expected to start next month when they run out.

Filming started up again on Monday with a new episode focused solely on the coronavirus pandemic and its impact on the staff and patients at Holby City hospital.

"It's with great pleasure that we open the doors at Elstree to welcome back the exceptional cast and crew of Holby City," said Kate Oates, head of continuing drama at the BBC.

"We have some gripping stories to tell as we explore how the lives of our characters have been irrevocably changed since the start of the pandemic - and how our heroes battle against the odds, come what may."

The post-lockdown episodes of Holby will run at the shorter time of 40 minutes and air on BBC One later this year.
