The BBC is reportedly planning to make two series of The Apprentice with Lord Sugar in 2022.

Lord Sugar will reportedly film two series of The Apprentice back to back in 2022.

The business-based competition show typically airs on BBC One every autumn, but due to the coronavirus pandemic it has been absent from the schedules since 2019.

A new series was finally filmed over the summer although it will not be broadcast until January and according to The Sun, plans are afoot to make two series instead of one next year to try to get caught up.

"BBC bosses like what they've seen on the upcoming series and want two more," a source told the newspaper.

"The Apprentice was a big miss in the schedules last year, which they think will be reflected in the ratings.

"So they want to strike while the iron's hot and tie Lord Sugar down for two more series in quick succession, which they hope will have more of an international feel now lockdown restrictions are gradually lifting."

Sugar is currently in Australia filming a local version of The Celebrity Apprentice.
