A local version of The Traitors is reportedly in development for Irish broadcaster RTE.

An Irish version of reality hit The Traitors is reportedly being developed for local broadcaster RTE.

The deceit-based competition - a Dutch format - has been successfully adapted for the BBC in the UK and Peacock in the US, with local versions also airing in countries including Canada, Australia, New Zealand, France, Germany and Spain.

According to The Irish Times, production company Kite Entertainment has picked up the Irish rights to the show and is in active discussions with RTE over a commission.

The newspaper says that an Irish castle will be scouted in order to keep production costs low, while the contestants will most likely be all civilians rather than celebrities, which has been the case with some international versions.

RTE has yet to comment on the report.
