A number of Barcelona directors allegedly threatened to resign when it became apparent that Luis Suarez was close to joining Atletico Madrid.

Luis Suarez's expected transfer to Atletico Madrid has reportedly split the Barcelona boardroom.

The Uruguay international is on the brink of ending his hugely-successful six-year spell at Camp Nou to make the switch to Wanda Metropolitano.

However, Onda Cero claims that the deal, which involves no upfront payment, has caused friction behind the scenes at the Catalan giants.

A number of figures are said to have been left unhappy that Barcelona will only benefit financially if a number of clauses are activated in the future.

Ronald Koeman had previously informed the veteran that he did not feature in his future plans, quickly leading to talk of a move elsewhere.

Suarez had initially been expected to sign for Juventus until issues arose with his efforts to gain Italian citizenship.
