Brazil ease past Denmark to reach last eight

Host nation Brazil record a 4-0 victory against Denmark to reach the quarter-finals of the Olympic football tournament.

Two goals from Gabriel Barbosa have helped Brazil ease to a 4-0 win over Denmark in football's Group A, a result which secures their place in the knockout stages of the Olympic Games.

Brazil went into the match on the back of two goalless draws but they were aware that victory over the European nation would book their place in the next round of the competition.

After dominating the opening quarter, Brazil took the lead on 26 minutes when a low ball from Douglas Santos was turned home by Barbosa at the back post.

They doubled their advantage with five minutes remaining of the first half through Gabriel Jesus, who volleyed home from close range after meeting Luan's delivery from the right.

After half time, Brazil confirmed their place in the knockout stages when Douglas Santos and Neymar combined to set up Luan to fire home his team's third of the evening.

With 10 minutes to go, Barbosa found the back of the net for a second time when his deflected effort beat two players on the line, and the goal capped a fine performance from the hosts as they got back into contention to win their first ever gold in a football tournament at the Olympics.
