West Ham United confirm the signing of England international midfielder Kalvin Phillips on loan from Manchester City until the end of the season.

West Ham United have confirmed the signing of Kalvin Phillips on loan from Manchester City.

The England international midfielder joins the Hammers on a temporary deal until the end of the season, with the agreement understood to include an option to make the move permanent in the summer.

Reports have suggested that West Ham would have to pay £40m to sign Phillips outright at the end of the campaign.

The 28-year-old moves to the London Stadium having struggled to land a regular place in Pep Guardiola's side at Man City, playing just 89 minutes of Premier League football all season and failing to make a single start.

A number of clubs had been credited with an interest in the defensive midfielder, but West Ham have now won the race for his signature.

"I'm really pleased to be here. There's always been a lot of speculation about me moving to West Ham, so I'm really excited to get going now," Phillips told the club's official website.

"There's so much to look forward to in the second half of the season for the club and I can't wait to be part of it.

"There's an unbelievable group here and if I can come in and add the quality that I know I'm capable of, I'm sure we can give the West Ham fans plenty to be excited about between now and the end of the season."

Manager David Moyes added: "We are really pleased to bring a player of Kalvin's quality to West Ham United.

"We've been big admirers of him for a long time and we believe that he will add strength and competition to our squad.

"Kalvin is an England international midfielder, with proven Premier League experience. We're excited to welcome him into the group and look forward to working with him."

Phillips joined Man City from boyhood club Leeds United for a reported fee of £45m in 2022 and was part of their treble-winning squad last season, picking up winners' medals in the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League.

This season, he has added a UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup title to his collection, while he was also a key part of the England side that made it to the final of Euro 2020.

However, he has largely been reduced to a bit-part role at Man City having found himself behind Rodri in the pecking order at the Etihad Stadium, making only 31 appearances across all competitions for the club and seeing his standing in the England team lessen ahead of this summer's European Championship as a result.

Phillips will wear the number 11 shirt for West Ham and could make his debut in Thursday's Premier League home game against Bournemouth.
