Mourinho: 'Pogba rumours are not nice'

Jose Mourinho praises Paul Pogba for his "special effort" in making himself available to face Leicester City on the opening day of the Premier League season.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has again distanced himself from any falling out with Paul Pogba and has hailed the star midfielder for making himself available for selection so soon after the World Cup.

Rumours emerged earlier this week of a bust-up behind the scenes between the pair, relating to comments made by Pogba following his goalscoring display in the 2-1 win against Leicester City.

The France international suggested that he was unhappy at Old Trafford, but could not state how he truly feels through fear of being fined.

Mourinho has already rubbished these rumours, however, and insists that stories of a rift are not nice for him, the player in question or the club itself.

"It was a fantastic performance [against Leicester]," he told Sky Sports News. "A fantastic team performance which is what obviously pleases me more and a special effort, because it would be so easy for him to say after three days training, 'I can't, I am tired'. But no, he said 'I'm there'.

"I don't laugh about it because I don't think it is nice. When people believe it then it affects the image of the player who is a polite, educated guy, who never creates any problems at the training ground to anyone.

"It affects his image if people believe in it and it affects my image if people think I have no control and don't have a good relationship with players. It affects the club because Paul and myself are the club."

Barcelona are said to have shown a strong interest in Pogba over the summer.
