Jose Mourinho reportedly turns down an £89m offer to manage Chinese Super League side Guangzhou Evergrande as the Portuguese remains intent on managing at the top level.

Jose Mourinho has reportedly rejected an offer from Chinese Super League side Guangzhou Evergrande which would see him earn £89m over three years as he remains intent on managing at the highest level.

The 56-year-old has been out of work since he was sacked by Manchester United in December after overseeing the club's worst start to a league campaign in 29 years.

Mourinho, who spent the remainder of the 2018-19 season doing punditry work, claimed back in January that he had already turned down three job offers.

According to the Telegraph, the Portuguese met with Xu Jiajin, the billionaire chairman of Evergrande, to discuss the possibility of moving to the Chinese Super League, but declined the offer under the premise that he still feels he could manage at the highest level in Europe.

Mourinho was offered a three-year deal worth £26.9m annually with another £9m in bonuses, which would have seen him earn £89.3m in total for his services.

Speaking in an interview last week, Mourinho, who also reportedly received interest from Real Madrid in March, indicated he would be open to returning to Serie A in his next managerial post.
