Newcastle United are reportedly looking to sign four 'elite' players during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Newcastle United are reportedly keen to make four 'elite' signings ahead of the 2023-24 season.

After spending around £250m in the last three transfer windows, Newcastle were initially planning to adopt a strict spending strategy this summer due to Financial Fair Play rules.

However, Newcastle's performance on the pitch this season appears to have changed their outlook.

The Magpies are currently sitting in fourth position in the Premier League table with a three-point cushion over fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.

With Newcastle set to qualify for European competition, they are anticipating fresh income streams and new sponsors, which will help them fall in line with Financial Fair Play regulations.

They will also look to generate funds for their summer spending by offloading players that are deemed surplus to requirements.

According to The Telegraph, Newcastle are looking to sign at least four "elite players" this summer.

They are looking to add extra quality to their squad so that they can compete at the very top of the Premier League table.

The Magpies have been linked with a number of players that are currently plying their trade in the Premier League, including James Maddison, Ivan Toney, Karou Mitoma, Scott McTominay, Harvey Barnes and Kieran Tierney.

Declan Rice has been mentioned as a potential target, but the club is reportedly playing down their chances of signing the West Ham United man.

They are also monitoring players that are competing in some of Europe's biggest leagues like Bayer Leverkusen's Florian Wirtz, who was recently watched by Newcastle scouts.

Wirtz's teammate Moussa Diaby is on Newcastle's radar alongside Borussia Monchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram.

They are also interested in Napoli duo Victor Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia as well as Gabri Veiga, who has impressed for Celta Vigo this season.

Despite keeping tabs on a whole host of players, Newcastle are yet to make a final decision on their summer targets.

The Magpies are currently preparing for a crucial Premier League home meeting with Tottenham Hotspur, which takes place at St James' Park on Sunday.
