F1 legend Michael Schumacher showing "small signs of progress" in hospital

Michael Schumacher's manager Sabine Kehm claims that the Formula 1 legend is showing "small signs of progress" in hospital following his ski accident in December.

Michael Schumacher's manager Sabine Kehm has revealed that the seven-time Formula 1 champion is showing "small signs of progress" in hospital.

The German has been in a medically-induced coma in a Grenoble hospital since he hit his head on a rock while skiing off-piste in the French Alps on December 29.

Earlier this month, Kehm delivered an update on Schumacher's condition, claiming that the sportsman was showing "moments of consciousness and awakening".

"There are short moments of consciousness and he is showing small signs of progress," Kehm told German broadcaster ARD. "There are moments when he is awake and moments when he is conscious.

"Of course I am not a doctor, but medically, there is a distinction between being awake and being conscious, the latter meaning there is an ability to interact with his surroundings.

"I don't want to disclose details out of respect for the family, but we have no doubt at all in the abilities of the doctors treating Michael, they are experts in their field."

Before the news, reports emerged fearing that the former Ferrari driver could remain in a permanent vegetative state.
