Preview: Mozambique vs. Libya - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's African Nations Championship clash between Mozambique and Libya, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Mozambique and Libya prepare for the challenge of each other in a crunch African Nations Championship clash at the Nelson Mandela Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Both teams will be looking to get back to winning ways in this one having failed to come out on top in their respective last involvements.

Match preview

Mozambique had to settle for a share of the spoils in their CHAN opener against the Walia Ibex of Ethiopia, which ended goalless on Saturday.

Despite being under the cosh for the majority of the contest, Chiquinho Conde's men held firm to come away with a hard-fought point in Baraki.

As a result, Os Mambas are now unbeaten in all but one of their most recent seven outings across all competitions either side of the New Year.

Lying in store next is the task of facing off against an opposing outfit who are without defeat in the previous two meetings between the teams, picking up one win and one draw.

Ahead of a tough assignment against Group A leaders Algeria in their final group-stage outing, Mozambique will be keen to put themselves firmly in contention for a place in the knockout stages.

Libya kicked off their African Nations Championship on the back foot following a 1-0 loss against the Desert Warriors of Algeria on Friday.

Aymen Mahious was the match winner as he kept his cool from 12 yards to open the scoring in the 57th minute and put Corentin Martins's men to the sword.

The Mediterranean Knights have now lost each of their three outings in 2023 by a combined score of 5-1, highlighting the need for improvements at both ends of the pitch.

Having not suffered four defeats on the bounce since 2021, Libya set out to secure a much-needed return to winning ways as they enter the last chance saloon to preserve their CHAN journey.

Team News

Libya's Abdulati Al Abasi endured a disappointing outing last time out where he was subbed off midway through the second half, and the 28-year-old could drop to the bench here.

Muad Eisa would be the favourite to replace Al Abasi should he lose his place in the starting XI, although Saleh Al Taher is also a potential alternative.

Saddan Kito remains without an international goal since 2015, but the midfielder is expected to get the nod to feature right from the off once again.

Nelson Divrassone has scored three of his country's last four goals heading into Tuesday's clash and the forward is certainly one to keep an eye on.

Mozambique possible starting lineup:
Guambe; Muze, Thauzene, Chico, Matola; Telinho, Nangy, Amadu, Divrassone; Kito, Melito

Libya possible starting lineup:
Allafi; Mahmoud, Makkari, Alamami, Jaddour; Rajab, Touhami, Al Khouja; El-Munir, Saitou, Eisa

We say: Mozambique 0-1 Libya

Neither team is in impressive attacking form, so we are anticipating a drab affair with little goalmouth action at either end. That said, we can also see Libya narrowly piping Mozambique to all three points at the end of the 90 minutes.
